# Update Knowledge Base Item

> Updates a knowledge base item's name and/or description.

Updates the metadata (name and description) of an existing knowledge base item. This endpoint does not modify the content of the knowledge base item, only its descriptive information.

### Headers

**authorization** `string` *required*

Your API key for authentication.

**content-type** `string` *required*

Must be `application/json`.

### Path Parameters

**knowledge\_base\_id** `string` *required*

The unique identifier of the knowledge base item to update.

### Body Parameters

**name** `string`

New name for the knowledge base item. If not provided, the current name is retained.

**description** `string`

New description for the knowledge base item. Pass `null` to remove the description entirely.

### Response

**data** `object`

The updated knowledge base item object.

**data.id** `string`

Unique identifier for the knowledge base item.

**data.name** `string`

Updated name of the knowledge base item.

**data.description** `string`

Updated description of the knowledge base item.

**data.status** `string`

Current status: `"PROCESSING"`, `"COMPLETED"`, `"FAILED"`, or `"DELETED"`.

**data.type** `string`

Type of knowledge base item: `"FILE"`, `"WEB_SCRAPE"`, or `"TEXT"`.

**data.source\_urls** `string`

Source URLs for web scrape type (comma-separated).

**data.base\_url** `string`

Base URL for web scrape type.

**data.created\_at** `string`

ISO timestamp of creation.

**data.updated\_at** `string`

ISO timestamp of last update.

**data.error\_message** `string`

Error message if status is `"FAILED"`.

**data.file** `object`

File information for file-type knowledge base items.

**data.file.file\_name** `string`

Original filename.

**data.file.file\_size** `number`

File size in bytes.

**data.file.file\_type** `string`

MIME type of the file.

**errors** `null`

Will be `null` on successful update.
